Thirty-day mortality after endometrial cancer surgery in England, 2000 to 2009
Trust-level variations in 30-day post-operative mortality for endometrial cancer, for England for 2000 to 2009, were shown in the paper: Gildea C, Nordin A, Hirschowitz L, Poole J. Thirty-day postoperative mortality for endometrial carcinoma in England: a population-based study. BJOG 2016; DOI: 10.1111/1471-0528.13917
This analysis adjusted for variations in post-operative mortality by year of diagnosis, age at diagnosis, deprivation quintile of residence, disease stage and tumour grade, with full details of the methods available in the paper. A data briefing reports a short summary of the main variations by these factors.
The funnel plot below shows these trust-level variations in 30-day case-mix adjusted post-operative mortality rates for endometrial carcinoma, 2000 to 2009. One trust had a post-operative mortality rate which was higher than expected, based on the number of women receiving surgery and the national post-operative mortality rate (0.61%). A further 11 trusts had slightly higher than expected post-operative mortality rates. These 12 trusts are indicated on the plot, and their details are provided in the table below. These results reflect the overall post-operative mortality rates for the period 2000 to 2009. However, there have been a number of changes to clinical care over this period and in the years since then, which could affect the national post-operative mortality rate and trust-level variations.
